Outgoing Commonwealth Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks was honored at a dinner earlier this week for his 22 years in service. During the celebration a video featuring a message from British Prime Minister David Cameron, former Prime Ministers Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and Sir John Major and Archbishops Justin Welby, Rowan Williams, George Carey and Vincent Nichols, was shown.
All voiced nothing but praise for Lord Sacks, with Cameron recalling a humorous slip he made recently that symbolized the chief rabbi’s influence.
“When you were in Downing Street a few weeks ago I introduced you to Prime Minister Netanyahu, and without thinking, I described you as ‘my rabbi.’ It was a symbol of the impact you’ve had on this country far beyond the Jewish community,” he gushed.
