New York City is set to name a street after a Chasidic Jew who was killed trying to protect his girlfriend during a botched robbery of a kosher liquor store, the New York Daily News reports.
An intersection in Midwood in the borough of Brooklyn will be renamed “Yoseph Robinson Avenue” after Yoseph Robinson, who was slain in 2010 when he was shot in the chest by a crook trying to steal his girlfriend’s jewelry.
Robinson, who was from Jamaica, had converted to Orthodox Judaism after living a life of petty crime.
His girlfriend, Lahavah Wallace, said that he kept close ties to both cultures.
“Maybe he can still be the bridge for the communities in some way. It’s a fitting tribute and honor to an incredible man,” Wallace told the Daily News.
