Violent unrest continued in Egypt on Tuesday, as the Muslim Brotherhood’s “Freedom and Justice Party” headquarters in Qalyub, north of Cairo, was attacked with molotov cocktails. Meanwhile, supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, marched through Cairo, climbing the Giza bridge, and blocking large sections of traffic, after six people died in clashes with police, and 33 were injured, Egypt’s Al-Ahram daily reported.
Al-Ahram reported that unknown assailants attacked the Muslim Brotherhood in Qalyub, then fled, citing Qalyub’s Security Forces Director Major General Mahmoud Yousry. Al-Ahram said there was speculation that the attack was in retribution for the killing of two people in further violence near the village of Mit Halfa yesterday.
In Cairo, Al-Ahram said Muslim Brotherhood supporters climbed the Giza bridge, cut off the road to Cairo University, blocking traffic in multiple directions, and set fire to a traffic kiosk, after clashes with police at the university left six dead and 33 injured. Nine people have been killed in political violence in the past two days.
