The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council has started implementing sanctions on the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah, the Saudi newspaper Al-Wattan reported Sunday, citing a “well-informed” source.
Members of the GCC—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates— decided June 10 to impose sanctions on members of Hezbollah, targeting their residency permits and their financial and business activities in retaliation for the Shiite terror group’s support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in his country’s civil war.
The source cited by Al-Watan said the boycott “does not differentiate between Hezbollah’s military and political wings, which makes it more comprehensive than the EU’s decision” to blacklist the party’s “military wing.”
The 28-nation European Union announced a week ago that it would blacklist Hezbollah’s “military wing” as a terror group, but said that its political relationship would remain intact. Hezbollah does not differentiate between its military and political wings.
