The Israeli government is committed to the nine-month time frame set out by US Secretary of State John Kerry for reaching an agreement on a peace deal with the Palestinian Authority, Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, on Tuesday.
“That is our desire. Prime Minister Netanyahu is committed to that time frame, and he strongly believes that if the Palestinians negotiate with faith, with seriousness, and remain at the table—that’s the most important situation—yes, we can reach that historic agreement within nine months,” Oren said
Oren said that all of the core issues,”Whether it be territory, security, mutual recognition—even Jerusalem,” could be resolved within the time frame if the two sides remain committed to negotiations.
On Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry said that Israeli and Palestinian negotiators would convene again in the Middle East within two weeks and that their goal would be to work out a comprehensive peace agreement within nine months.
Oren also told Blitzer that, in addition to the promised release of Palestinian convicts, Israel will consider “as in the past, other measures to build confidence with the Palestinians.”
