In New York State Supreme Court, on Friday, July 1, the Honorable Judge Michael J. Obus released Dominique Strauss-Kahn from house arrest. Prosecutors informed the Court that there were “significant credibility issues” concerning the housekeeper who had accused the former Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of sexual assault.
Prosecutors acknowledged that significant credibility issues existed concerning the testimony of the hotel housekeeper who accused Mr. Strauss-Kahn of trying to rape her. Assistant District Attorney Joan Iluzzi Orbon provided detailed information to Strauss Kahn’s attorneys, Benjamin Brafman and William Taylor III, indicating a series of falsehoods had been stated by the accuser, not only in her testimony to the DA’s office but in her immigration application as well.
Strauss Kahn has been released on his own recognizance, and is not longer under house arrest, has had his bail exonerated and the case against him has moved closer to dismissal. His passport, however, remains in the hands of the District Attorney.
