The Lebanese government accused Israel on Friday of “cyberwarfare” and infiltrating communication networks of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and the Lebanese Army, the Lebanon Daily Star reported.
In a presentation to foreign diplomats, a government committee on “Assessing the Dangers of the Israeli Telecom Towers in Lebanese Territory” said an Israeli telecoms network at 39 sites along the border included dozens of towers and hundreds of antennas that allow full eavesdropping on internet and telephone communications at the civilian, diplomatic and military levels.
Hezbollah MP Hasan Fadlallah told reporters after the meeting that the government was preparing a complaint to be submitted to the U.N. Security Council and a memo to U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon.
U.S. Ambassador David Hale was notably absent from the meeting in Parliament that included 27 foreign ambassadors and U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly.
