Around £100 million worth of illegal drugs discovered by police in England were emblazoned with mysterious markings including the Jewish Star of David, the Daily Mail reported Friday, Feb. 7.

Police discovered the narcotics in April 2013 and arrested eighteen members of the drugs trafficking empire that imported them. The criminals were recently jailed for a total of 217 years. The haul, which included 78 kilos of cocaine was set to be distributed to major dealers across the North West of England, the publication noted.

Other markings on the packs of heroin and cocaine seized by authorities included the letter V, a smiley face, the word “Red” and four X’s in a row. It is unclear what the symbols represent in connection to the drug trafficking.

The ring’s mastermind, Richard Brookhouse, 45, was sent to prison for 22 years in 2003 for drug smuggling. He organized the drug operation from inside his jail cell in Lancashire with 37-year-old former Liverpool boxing champion Carl Wall. They worked with Liverpool crime lord Paul Hannon to distribute the drugs, the report said.

Brookhouse was reportedly sentenced to another 20 years in jail for his part in the operation. Wall got  21 years added to the four he is already serving for making threats to kill after part of his stash was stolen in 2009. Brookhouse’s wife was jailed for 14 years for assisting the drug lords.

Five more gang members connected to the drug ring will be sentenced in Liverpool on March 7.
