Israel on Thursday demanded that Iran be held accountable for an attempted terrorist attack on one of its diplomats in India in 2012, the Hindustan Times reported.
Two years ago, Tal Yehoshua Koren, an Israeli diplomat, was on her way to pick up her two children from school when, “in the heart of New Delhi, she was targeted by agents of the Government of Iran who attempted to assassinate her,” according to a statement from the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi.
“Immediately after the attack in Delhi, the external affairs minister of India assured the Israeli leadership that the culprits will be brought to justice at the earliest, that the law of land will take its course and that India will continue with the investigation.”
“One Indian citizen was arrested and four arrest warrants were issued against the Iranian culprits who have escaped. It is understood that the Iranian authorities did not provide answers to the government of India. The terrorists who committed this heinous attack in Delhi and the government of Iran that sent them must be made accountable,” the statement said.
The newspaper said Iran denied being involved in the attack.
The statement also praised the Indian government for providing security for Israeli diplomats in order to prevent events like this from happening again, the newspaper reported.
Israel said that Koren is still recovering from the attack. Her driver and two innocent bystanders, all Indian citizens, were also injured.
