‘Did I Mention I’m Jewish,’ Says Lawyer in Most Infamous Criminal Defense Ad Ever (VIDEO)
by Shiryn Ghermezian
A viral, spoof YouTube ad for Pittsburgh based criminal defense attorney Daniel Muessig, that made international headlines last week as the “best (or worst) criminal defense attorney ad ever,” ends by highlighting the legal eagle’s Jewish credentials.
“Did I mention I’m Jewish?” asks Muessig at the end of the video as he spins a dreidel on the desk in from of him before a Star of David flashes on the screen.
Muessig described the concept behind his clip as “a send-up of the cartoonishly amoral Jewish criminal defense attorney,” Britain’s Daily Mail reported on Friday.
The 3-minute, 27-second video begins with scenes of fictional criminals pausing to thank the lawyer as they commit various crimes. Muessig, 31, then touts his credentials to the camera, saying, “I stand ready, willing, able and committed to defend you on all manner of criminal charges… Trust me, I may have a law degree, but I think like a criminal.”
“Any criminal defense attorney who promises you a result is more likely a lying, scumbag,” he adds. “Pay me now, thank me later and remember: you keep your trap shut, and I’ll keep your trap open.”
Muessig was a freestyle rapper before earning a JD at the University of Pittsburgh Law School in 2012, according to the Daily Mail. His video has garnered over 103,000 views on YouTube since it was uploaded, and Muessig believes his tongue-in-cheek approach will extend his client base.
“I wanted to connect with my potential clients in a way that people from my generation could understand,” he told Reuters on Friday. “I wanted to give people something that would be memorable and entertaining.”
