An investigation into Friday night’s attack on an Israel Defense Forces patrol near the border with Lebanon revealed that Hezbollah fighters were able to sneak hundreds of meters inside Israel, Israel’s Walla reported on Monday.
Three soldiers riding in a patrol jeep were slightly injured when two bombs exploded on Friday. Immediately after the charges were detonated, a nearby IDF artillery unit fired several smoke bombs into the areas so arriving rescue units could evacuate the wounded. Some of the shells launched by the artillery unit reportedly landed in southern Lebanon.
The three soldier injured in the attack were taken to Ziv Hospital, located in Tzafed, Walla reported.
IDF military officials said on record that the infiltration of Hezbollah, or terrorists working under Hezbollah’s command, is “very serious” since the bombs were planted in an area long considered secure, Walla said.
Once the IDF completes its fact-finding mission, its conclusions will be presented to GOC Northern Command Major General Yair Golan. Meanwhile, the IDF has beefed up its presence and raised the alert level in the Golan area.
