British relationship expert Andrew Wallas said Kaballah practitioners are likely to be less satisfied in their personal relationships than other couples, Britain’s Daily Mail reported Wednesday.

“All the research is that individuals who have an interest in psychology or spirituality or who practice something like Kaballah (the branch of Jewish mysticism popularized by Madonna) are less likely to have satisfactory relationships,” he said. “A lifetime spent doing self-improvement workshops can just be a case of someone running away from reality.”

Wallas, who married one of his former clients, also believes that an excessively optimistic outlook doesn’t help foster a healthy marriage. The key is to accept your marriage as it is rather than seek some unduly cheerful version of it, he told the Daily Mail.

“In the West, we have a romanticized view of marriage. We talk a lot about love,” he explained. “I prefer to talk about intimacy and honesty. How many of us are truly honest with our partners? We’re more likely to be honest with our hairdresser than we are with our own spouses.”

Britain’s only practicing Conscious Uncoupling guru, Wallas embraces the idea that divorce can be joyful and jubilant. He said 50 percent of his work involves counseling couples while they are still together, while much of the other half is with individuals who have left a relationship.
