Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Amoli Larijani on Saturday said that Iran does not care for Western human rights, according to semi-official Iranian state news agency Mehr on Sunday.
Speaking at a meeting of Police Commanders on Saturday, Larijani addressed international statements against Iran on human rights, specifically Iran’s use of the death penalty and its objections to gay rights.
“But we do not care what they say,” Larjani said.
He rejected objections made by officials from the European Union, Britain, and the United States, as Iran has already responded that its use of the death penalty is because of an Islamic tenet called Qisas, a judicial verdict for murderers, which Larijani said he believed to be the “right thing.”
“They (Westerners) dictate us to stop Qisas and ask Iran to recognize same-sex marriage in Iran and we do not care for what they want to impose upon us,” Larijani said, adding that “our laws is in accordance to Divine rules and westerners are nothing regarding Divine rules.”
