Asian Countries Have Major Presence in Upcoming Tel Aviv Tech Conference

JNS.org – Asian countries are growing more and more interested in Israel’s high-tech industry and “start-up nation” mantra. Nowhere is that more evident than in the Jewish state’s upcoming Tel Aviv MIXiii 2014 conference, to be held next week.
A 300-member Chinese delegation will be attending the conference and will include the Chinese ministers of science, education, and health, as well as a Chinese vice foreign minister, reports Haaretz.
“This is a great time in the technology world, and Israel has a backlog of companies to invest in, so we are attracting executives from around the world who want to join in the celebration,” said Yoav Chelouche, joint chairman of the conference and of its sponsoring organization, the Israel Advanced Technology Industries Association.
In addition, about 30 Indian companies will be exhibiting at the conference in a special Indian Pavilion.
“Israel and India already do a lot of business in several areas, including agriculture and diamonds, with the latter accounting for about half the current $5 billion in trade between our countries. Interest in Israel from the information technology sector has been increasing in recent years as well, with Indian companies seeking to partner with Israeli start-up and veteran companies on development projects,” Vani Rao, deputy chief of mission in the Embassy of India, told the Times of Israel.
“Many of Israel’s IT largest companies, such as Ceragon, Truphatek, CheckPoint, Magic Software, Ness Technologies and others have operations in India. Amdocs, which provides communication and back office services for companies around the world, has about 1,000 employees at its office in Pune,” he said.
South Korea will also have a presence at the conference, in addition to other countries such as Germany, Italy, and the U.S. The conference is only one of many technology-related events held in Tel Aviv this season. The Tel Aviv University Innovation Day and The Age of Context: Israel’s First Wearable Tech Conference were held earlier this week. The Sami Shamoon College of Engineering’s Cyber Night 325, dedicated to network security, will be held next week.
The Israel Mobile Summit in Rishon Letzion, meanwhile, will be held on June 9 as part of Israel Mobile Week. The first-ever DroidCon event dedicated to androids in Israel will be held on June 10 and 11.
