A drunk Slovakian restaurant worker walked up to a kosher restaurant in London on Holocaust Remembrance Day, performed a Nazi salute and shouted “Heil Hitler,” and has now been sentenced by a judge for his crime, London’s Evening Standard reported on Thursday.
“Miroslav Ondrus, 33, marched up to three men eating at the White House Express in Golders Green and performed the offensive gesture, Hendon magistrates’ court heard,” the Evening Standard reported. “The Slovakian also picked up restaurant manager Solomon Tangi after he protested about his behavior and shook him violently, injuring his wrist.”
District Judge Mark Jabbitt said the act was “outrageous” and told Ondrus, “What you did was profoundly insulting and threatening.”
He was also banned from entering the neighborhood, defined by its NW11 postcode, for a year and sentenced to 180 hours of community service. Ondrus admitted to two charges of racially or religiously aggravated harassment and a charge of assault by beating.
Defense lawyer Tina Patel said the immigrant was remorseful, “could not be more apologetic” and was so drunk at the time he “can’t remember anything.”
