Israeli pop star Sarit Hadad and an audience of over 1,000 women joined together in an emotional rendition of ‘As The Heart Breaks,’ a popular Israeli song which she dedicated to the rescue of three teens kidnapped by Hamas terrorists last Thursday.
The performance opened the annual get-together of a local committee for women’s advancement, hosted by the Samaria Regional Council.
Relatives of Naftali Frankel, 16, one of those abducted as they traveled home from their yeshiva, attended the event, and recited passages from Psalms, according to Israel’s Channel Two.
“We all pray that our children will return home safely, God willing, and return to their mothers, their families, and to all the people of Israel,” Hadad said, tears welling up as she embraced Frankel’s family members.
“We thank all of you for coming to pray with us,” Racheli Frankel and Hadas Vitzner, Naftali’s cousins, told the group.
“It’s really important for the families to know that, in these difficult days that the people of Israel stand with us,” one said.
“The feeling that it’s a national story, and not just a family story gives us a lot of strength to cope,” she said. “We have complete faith, that, thanks to the merit of you goodly people, and with the merit of all of our people, and the positive energies focused on God, that God will return the sons.”
Yellow rubber bracelets imprinted with the Biblical quote, “The Sons Shall Return,” were worn by everyone at the event, including the relatives and Hadad.
Council chief Gershon Mesika admitted that he had doubts whether or not to call off the evening.
“We’re going through a very difficult period, and we debated whether we should even hold the event,” he said. “But we decided to go forward, despite it all, and that we’re not canceling events or changing our daily routine – we won’t let terrorism win,” he vowed.
“The people of Israel are displaying the spirit of mutual responsibility,” Mesika said.
