CNN Pulls Reporter From Israel-Gaza After Tweet Calling Group of Israelis ‘Scum’

A CNN correspondent who has been covering the Israel-Hamas war was removed from her post after she referred to a group of Israelis she encountered as “scum.”
Diana Magnay made the comment on Twitter on Friday and quickly deleted it.
“Israelis on hill above Sderot cheer as bombs land on #gaza; threaten to ‘destroy our car if I say a word wrong.’ Scum,” she wrote.
In the short time it was up, the post was re-tweeted 247 times and marked “Favorite” by 47 of her Twitter followers.
Magnay wrote the Twitter message minutes after she got off air reporting live near the Israel-Gaza border early Friday morning, Israel time. The Israel Defense Forces had only hours beforehand began its ground invasion into the Gaza Strip.
During her on-air report, Magnay pointed out artillery barrages that could be seen being fired from Israel toward Hamas terror targets.
“I think you can probably see there are lots of Israelis gathered around who are cheering when they see these kinds of Israeli strikes,” she noted, describing the scene as “macabre.”
Later on Friday, a CNN spokeswoman said Magnay has been re-assigned to Moscow, The Huffington Post reported.
“After being threatened and harassed before and during a liveshot, Diana reacted angrily on Twitter,” the spokeswoman said. “She deeply regrets the language used, which was aimed directly at those who had been targeting our crew. She certainly meant no offense to anyone beyond that group, and she and CNN apologize for any offense that may have been taken.”
