The anti-Israel, terror-tied Turkish NGO IHH claimed it will send a second “humanitarian aid” Flotilla to Gaza after the infamous 2010 fiasco – and is promising that this one will have a military escort, Israel’s NRG news website reported Sunday.
According to the group’s organizer, they are bound and determined to bring humanitarian aid to Gazans, and have started legal moves to procure a military escort.
“Our group has undertaken the legal measures and is gathering the documentation required to receive the permission to set sail,” the organization’s chairman said.
“The moment we get the ok, our international partners will get the flotilla underway immediately,” he said.
The individual, who was not named by NRG, said the purpose of having a Turkish military escort would be to defend against any hostile Israeli measures, and added that he had made the demand for protection as a Turkish citizen.
Ankara, however, has so far not officially confirmed the report, according to Israel Radio.
In May 2010, IHH (The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief) chartered the Mavi Marmara ferry in a six-ship flotilla carrying over 600 Palestinian supporters to presumably bring humanitarian aid to Gazan Palestinians.
This was to be done by breaking an Israeli naval blockade meant to thwart arms and rocket shipments to the coastal enclave.
In past years, Israel had successfully interdicted several other arms shipments from Iran and elsewhere, as well as other civilian groups believed aiding and abetting Hamas, an internationally recognized terrorist entity.
On May 31, after an Israeli security cabinet decision to commandeer the lead craft for breaking the blockade, and tow it to Ashdod port, a team of helicopter-borne Israeli naval SEALs armed with paintball guns and sidearms fast-roped down to the deck, to be met by a knife and truncheon-wielding mob.
In the ensuing melee, troops killed nine Turkish nationals, and at least five of the soldiers were severely beaten and stabbed by the craft’s passengers.
In the end, the IDF took all six craft into tow, and detained the passengers, later expelling them.
When the supposed aid contents were inspected, authorities said they turned out to consist of broken medical aids, including wheelchairs, expired medications, and small amounts of used clothing.
