An Iranian university professor working at a key nuclear facility in Tehran was  killed in a bomb attack by two motorcyclists on Wednesday. Iranian government officials immediately blamed Israel saying “These terrorist actions bring the arrogant government [Israel] closer to collapse”. The Iranian government is the one who says the 9/11 attacks were executed by the U.S. itself, just to give the Americans an excuse to attack Afghanistan. Do you understand where I am going with this?

The tensions between Iran, Israel and the US are sky rocketing, and the three are becoming masters of the blame-game. Iran calls America the “cause of corruption on earth.” America and Israel accuse Iran of building a nuclear bomb. Iran accuses America for nearly everything that is going wrong in the world. America ties a Washington DC terror plot to Iran. Iran kills a nuclear professor and says it was Israel.

Oops… Did I give it away?

As an Iranian Jew born and raised in Iran, I feel compassion for my country. After leaving Iran, I have always tried make the West feel more compassion for Iranians, while trying to convince fellow Jews that Iran is not a dangerous place.  Meanwhile, I have been observing the news coming out of the Iranian media and comparing it to America and Israel. Have you ever heard the age-old adage, “History tends to repeat itself?”

No need to go back 100 years. Forget, even, the chain assassinations of Iranian reporters, diplomats and artists 30 years ago by the Iranian government.

As recently as  June 2009, right after the Iranian elections, thousands of Iranians flooded the streets to show their dissatisfaction with the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, while gaining the world’s attention via Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The movement was reportedly the first cyber-revolution, well before the Arab Spring. Many Iranian protesters including an ordinary and modern girl, Neda Agha-Soltan were shot to death by the Iranian government, which was filmed raw by observers’ cell phone cameras and immediately posted on the Internet. It could not have gotten any more obvious: An Iranian government military Basij member shot the girl to death.

Guess who was blamed for Neda’s death by the Iranian government? Britain and the U.S.!

I have never thought there would be war between Israel and Iran, probably due to economic pressures.  The world is dependent on Iran’s oil, and Iran is playing a very good game by closing the strait of Hormuz. Many Iranian Jews remained in Iran after the revolution, and even have a member in the Islamic Republic Parliament.

But a government with a mindset and belief that a country like America is capable of attacking its own World Trade Center and kill thousands of people just to find an excuse to attack another country, is probably capable of doing such things itself. The timing of the recent assassination of a nuclear professor and the immediate blame on Israel was both expected and alarming.
