Television personality Martha Stewart, designer Elie Tahari, fashion icon Simon Doonan, producer Sandy Gallin and publicist Scott Currie paid tribute to iconic comedian Joan Rivers in a moving tribute video prepared especially for The Algemeiner’s Jewish 100 Gala on Tuesday night.
The video was shown for the first time at the event which posthumously honored Rivers with the ‘Warrior for Truth’ Award. Her daughter Melissa accepted the award on her behalf on front of a crowd of 500 at the Capitale in New York City. Other awardees at the event included Donald Trump and speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein.
The video highlights Joan’s strong sense of Jewish identity and her legendary vocal passion for Israel. On receiving the award Melissa said, “My mother, clearly, was always very passionate about Israel and Judaism and… it really was not in her nature to keep those feelings, or any feelings, to herself.”
“After my mother passed away it became overwhelmingly apparent to me that her pride in being Jewish was very well known around the world… a ridiculous amount of trees were planted in Israel in her honor,” she added.
The video was shot and produced by Nima Soofi of Talent Resources.
