Readers of Travel and Leisure magazine ranked Jerusalem among the top 10 best cities in the world, according to a list released this week.
Israel’s capital city took 10th place on the list and was noted for its attraction to multiple faith groups. “Christians, Jews, and Muslims converge to worship in this 4,000-year-old holy city, and their respective churches, synagogues and mosques surround the historic Old City,” the magazine noted.
Tourists also flock to the city to pray and leave prayer notes at the Western Wall, visit the Temple Mount and pose in front of its iconic Dome of the Rock mosque.
Travel and Leisure referenced Jerusalem’s “stake in the contemporary and secular” and noted the city’s luxury apartment buildings that “erupt like stalagmites” from the Judean Desert, and high-end restaurants “bringing a new upmarket appeal to this arid oasis.”
Kyoto, Japan, took the top spot on the list for the second year in a row. It was followed by Charleston; South Carolina; Siem Reap, Cambodia and Florence, Italy.
Rome took the 5th spot followed by Bangkok, Thailand; Krakow, Poland; Barcelona, Spain and Cape Town, South Africa.
