A wounded Syrian brought to Israel for treatment drew the attention of Israeli doctors after he presented a list of medical supplies urgently needed by Syrian rebels, Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Tuesday.

The man, who was recently admitted to a hospital in northern Israel, was carrying the English-written note on his person. It listed both medicines and medical equipment, demonstrating the difficult humanitarian situation in Syria.

The paper, which opened with the line, “we in bad need for,” listed pharmaceutical products including an anesthetic drug called Fentin, blood pressure medications, needles to biopsy livers, morphine, and surgical equipment, among many other items.

The Israel Defense Forces are operating in the north of the country to help Syrians located near the border and are delivering medical treatment and equipment. Nonetheless, the note highlighted how the actions the IDF has undertaken are limited in their effectiveness due to the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

Syrians continue to cross the border into Israel seeking aid, despite an incident that occurred last month where ambulances carrying wounded Syrians were attacked by a mob of angry Druze, killing the occupants.

A senior IDF officer recently revealed that Israel had stopped providing medical aid to known members of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front, a Sunni extremist group fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, about six weeks ago.
