A former national security adviser to the previous president of Nigeria has been arrested on charges of corruption in relation to his failing to purchase Israeli military drones, Israeli news site nrg reported on Thursday.
According to the report, Sambo Dasuki, who served under President Goodluck Jonathan, is under investigation for purchasing Chinese CH-3 drones, when he was instructed to go for the Hermes 450 UAVs manufactured by the Israeli company, Elbit, due to their proven reliability and operational capabilities.
Soon after Dasuki signed the approximately $260 million arms deal with China, one of the newly acquired Chinese-made drones crashed.
Dasuki is accused of having opted for the Chinese model, because of its lower price, and then pocketing the extra money, according to nrg.
