Jerry Seinfeld launched season 7 of his web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Wednesday with guest President Barack Obama, who probed the Jewish comedian about why he hadn’t expanded his career to include such pursuits as making a Jewish version of a famous 1940s film.
Though at first Seinfeld asked all the questions, Obama took over the interview.
“People think you’re funny,” the president said. “They give you a show and next thing you know you’ve made a ridiculous amount of money. Right now you seem like a completely normal guy. How did you calibrate dealing with that?”
Obama continued, “At a certain point, you might have thought to yourself, ‘You know what? I’m more than just a comedian. I’m going to make a Jewish version of Citizen Kane.’ How do you keep perspective?”
Seinfeld replied that he “fell in love” with his work, which he described as “joyful, difficult and interesting,”
