Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon: World Likud.
“There is no excuse for murdering women in front of their children,” said the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations on Monday.
Danny Danon’s comments were apparently in response to a statement by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who wrote last week that 50 years of Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories — territories captured by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War — was continuing to fuel “resistance.”
His comment was also a likely reference of the death of Dafna Meir, who was stabbed in front of her teenager daughter by a Palestinian teenage intruder to their home in Otniel last month.
Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accused Ban of encouraging Palestinian terrorism, especially amid the current period of near-daily attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.
“No one can deny that the everyday reality of occupation provokes anger and despair, which are major drivers of violence and extremism and undermine any hope of a negotiated two-state solution,” said Ban on Monday, according to the Times of Israel.
The UN secretary general also stressed, however, that “the stabbings, vehicle-rammings and other attacks by Palestinians targeting Israeli civilians are reprehensible. So, too, are the incitement of violence and the glorification of killers. Nothing excuses terrorism. I condemn it categorically.”
Israeli security forces, meanwhile, foiled another attempted stabbing in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), in Sal’it, a moshav near Tulkarem. According to Army Radio, an Israeli soldier managed to shoot and seriously wound the Palestinian assailant mid-attack.
