The New York City Police Department is investigating the source of several antisemitic notes found in an East Harlem apartment building over the past month, the New York Daily News reported on Thursday.
A resident of the Madison Avenue building came home from work one day and found a threatening note on her door saying, “American Holocaust, you are a dead Jew,” according to sources. She reported the note to police on Dec. 31.
Between Jan. 22 and Feb. 1, 21 similar notes, some of which contained swastikas, were left in the hallway of the floor where the victim lives, sources said. The insiders added that some of the letters were possibly tied or wrapped together.
A building employee reported the disturbing notes to police.
The victim declined to comment on the incident, saying, “I’m not going to answer any questions about this.”
