On Tuesday, 28-year-old Israeli Tomer Ditur was stabbed while jogging on a road in the Gush Etzion bloc of settlements in the West Bank. By Friday, he was back on the jog, Israeli media reported.
“Thanks for coming, it’s encouraging. We’ll keep running despite it all,” said Ditur, according to Channel 2. He was accompanied by several other joggers.
Closed circuit video of the incident last Tuesday showed Ditur, from Rosh Tzurim, running outside the West Bank Israeli settlement of Neve Daniel when a man in black clothes emerges from the bushes and lunges at him. The two appear to tussle before the assailant flees off the side of the road. Ditur was treated on site for moderate stab wounds before being taken to the hospital.
The IDF continued its search for the suspect on Friday.
The group of joggers set out on Friday along the Way of the Patriarchs in the West Bank from Neve Daniel, and were joined by the Gush Etzion Regional Council chair Davidi Perl. When they reached the site of the attack, they were joined by Ditur as well.
“I didn’t expect to be here at all,” said Ditur. “Especially not with so many people from Gush [Etzion] — good people representing what I believe in, despite what happened and because of what we went though. I thank everybody, it’s very encouraging.”
“We are thankful for the miracle, that Tomer runs here together with us. Despite attempts to put us behind fences, we won’t buckle to terrorism,” said Perl.
Hundreds of stabbings and attempted stabbings have been carried out, mostly by Palestinian attackers, in the past several months since the Jewish high holidays, with especially high numbers of attacks occurring in the West Bank, where hundreds of thousands of Israelis currently reside in settlements and which Palestinians claim for a future state.
