The newest cast member of The Real Housewives of New York City is a half-Jewish mother-of-two who considers herself  “kind of modern Orthodox.”

Julianne Wainstein, who goes by the nickname “Jules,” calls herself “half-Japanese, half-Brooklynese,” since her father is Jewish and her mother Japanese, according to the New York Post. Calling her Friday-night meals “very traditional,” she said they have weekly dinners to celebrate Shabbat, and, “Even if we don’t have challah wherever we are, we always have a hot dog bun or cracker. Or if we don’t have Manischewitz [kosher wine used for kiddush], we’ll use Gatorade,” she explained. “Whatever works, we make it happen. It’s all about just having the family together.”

According to Bravo, the network behind the hit series, Wainstein is “not afraid to speak her mind,” adding, “We’re pretty confident that this rookie will be able to hold her own among these tough broads.”

Wainstein grew up in Cresskill, NJ, before moving to Boca Raton, Fla., in high school, according to the Post. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, where fellow Housewives star Ramona Singer also studied, and went on to become an assistant buyer and designer at a boutique fashion company in SoHo. Bravo noted that she now works as an event planner for the Women’s International Zionist Organization, a group that raises money for schools and programs for women and the elderly in Israel.

Waistein is married to venture capitalist Michael Wainstein, and the couple have a 3-year-old daughter named Rio, and a 5-year-old son named Jagger. The family divides its time between homes in Water Mill, LI, Miami and New York City.

Talking to the Post about being in the spotlight, she said, “I love attention. Imagine having your hair and makeup professionally done all the time, and then people, like, staring at you through a lens. It’s fun.”

The newest, and youngest, member of the Housewives cast will make her debut appearance in season 8 of the reality show, which premieres Wednesday, April 6. She said she credits RHONY star Dorinda Medley for getting her on the show. Wainstein first met Medly at a wedding five years ago.

“She called me up one day, and she was like, ‘Would you be interested in being a housewife?’ For me, it was kind of perfect timing,” Wainstein said. “I kind of get high off on taking risks. So I couldn’t say no…My whole life, everyone said, ‘You need your own reality show.’ But I never thought it would actually happen. It’s still like a dream.”
