A clandestine organization that documents antisemitic and anti-Israel activity on US campuses released a report Friday, following the “large number of requests” it received “to expose radicalism” at Vassar College, The Algemeiner has learned.
Canary Mission’s report began by specifying the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign launched at Vassar by “Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), which culminated in a March 6 student government vote endorsing a BDS resolution.”
According to the report, this was a result of the prevailing climate on the campus, which included the SJP posting of a Nazi-style cartoon on its Tumblr account; harassing of students considering a class trip to study water issues in Israel and Jordan (because its itinerary included Israel); and one of its members modeling a pro-terrorism hoodie on Facebook, advertising that “Existence is Resistance” gear would be available for sale at SJP events, with profits going “toward organizing Palestinian resistance.”
In addition, the report cited the recent lecture by Rutgers Prof. Jasbir Puar — co-sponsored by a number of Vassar departments, including Jewish Studies — in which she accused Israel of criminal acts, such as harvesting the organs of Arabs and purposely stunting the growth of Palestinian children.
The report also included in-depth profiles of several Vassar students, alumni and faculty — nearly all of whom are members of SJP or JVP — and showcased their anti-Israel, sometimes antisemitic, activity.
Canary Mission was founded in 2015 “to document the people and groups that are promoting hatred of the USA, Israel and Jews on college campuses in North America.” It maintains a high degree of secrecy about its members and operations. Last month, it released a similar report about Columbia University, ahead of that institution’s annual “Israeli Apartheid Week,” as was reported by The Algemeiner.
