A newly released video reveals a co-founder of the NGO Breaking the Silence (BtS) telling tourists that Israeli settlers poisoned Palestinian wells, the Hebrew news site nrg reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the clip was filmed by an undercover member of the right-wing “Ad Kan” group, which seeks to expose activities of left-wing Israeli organizations which receive foreign funding
In the video, which was filmed less than two years ago, Yehuda Shaul can be heard addressing a group of foreign visitors to the southern Hebron Hills in Judea (the West Bank). Speaking in English, he tells the visitors that residents of the Palestinian village of Susiya had only recently returned to their homes after being forced to leave several years earlier, when settlers poisoned their drinking water supply system.
BtS did not respond to nrg by publication time.
Commenting on the report on Tuesday, Likud MK Anat Berko said, “Yehuda Shaul suffers from a classic case of antisemitism and uses claims taken from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Given his logic, I wouldn’t be surprised if he bakes Passover matzah with the blood of his fellow Jews.”
Habayit Hayehudi (the Jewish Home Party) MK Nissan Slomiansky, who chairs the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, vowed to move ahead with a bill that would require more transparency for NGOs that receive funding from foreign countries. Slomiansky said the goal of groups like BtS is to “harm the state of Israel.”
Breaking the Silence is a whistle-blower organization, comprised of former IDF soldiers and officers, claiming that the Israeli army commits crimes against innocent Palestinians. Members collect testimonies about these alleged crimes, and go on international lecture tours to report on them. As reported by The Algemeiner, BtS is a source of great controversy in Israel, where it is under investigation for allegedly collecting classified military information and the target of a slander suit by IDF reservists.
