JNS.org – Leading Republican members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday called on President Barack Obama not to make any new moves in relation to Iran before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated in January.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce wrote in a letter to the White House, “[President Obama] admirably committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the next administration. President-elect Trump deserves the opportunity to assess United States policy toward Iran without your administration imposing or implementing additional measures that could complicate the incoming administration’s ability to develop its policy.”
“We respectfully request that your administration take no further action that bolsters international investment in Iran,” House leaders wrote.
Despite Republican opposition, the Obama administration has recently issued a second license to France’s Airbus to sell 106 commercial planes to Iran Air, Reuters reported. Airbus requires US approval as at least 10% of its aircraft components are made in America.
Earlier this year, the US aerospace company Boeing announced a $25 million sale of commercial planes to Iran, and the White House is considering granting waivers to more American companies interested in doing business with the Shiite-Muslim regime.
