JNS.org – The Ukrainian prosecutor general announced Wednesday that he would personally oversee the investigation into the attack of Jewish worshipers at a popular Hasidic pilgrimage site.

Yuri Lutsenko is leading the probe into the teargassing of Jews who had come to pray at the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav, where they were met by assailants yelling antisemitic slurs — and found a pig’s head and fake blood smeared on the walls and floor of the compound. No suspects have yet been arrested, Israel’s Army Radio reported Wednesday.

Two Israelis were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the sexton of the tomb’s synagogue, Rabbi Yisrael Elhadad.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, tens of thousands of Jews have visited Rabbi Nachman’s gravesite, with huge numbers gathering on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Some have lately started settling permanently in Uman, a move that has increasingly caused tension between the new arrivals and locals.
