The US must stop allowing the Jewish state to “be treated with such total disdain and disrespect,” President-elect Donald Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning, hours before outgoing Secretary of State John Kerry is set to deliver an address on the Israel-Palestinian peace process.
“They [Israel] used to have a great friend in the US, but not anymore,” Trump said. “The beginning of the end was the horrible Iran deal, and now this [last week’s anti-Israeli settlement UN Security Council resolution]! Stay strong Israel, January 20th is fast approaching!”
We cannot continue to let Israel be treated with such total disdain and disrespect. They used to have a great friend in the U.S., but…….

As reported by The Algemeiner, Trump was involved in the ultimately futile effort last week to thwart the vote on UN Security Council Resolution 2334 — which was approved Friday by a 14-0 margin, with a US abstention that allowed it to pass.
Following the vote, Trump tweeted, “As to the UN, things will be different after Jan. 20.” A day later, he added, “The big loss yesterday for Israel in the United Nations will make it much harder to negotiate peace. Too bad, but we will get it done anyway!”
In a pre-election interview with The Algemeiner, attorney David Friedman — who has since be chosen by Trump to serve as the next US ambassador to Israel — said, “The critical thing is to recognize that there is not going to be any progress on a Palestinian state until the Palestinians renounce violence and accept Israel as a Jewish state. Until that happens, there is really nothing to talk about in terms of a political process.”
What a Trump administration would not do, Friedman said, “is put its finger on the scale and try to force Israel into a particular outcome, but rather will support Israel in reaching its own conclusion about how to best achieve peace with its neighbors.”
“We trust Israel,” he continued. “We think it is doing an excellent job of balancing its respect for human rights and its security needs in a very difficult neighborhood. Israel is a partner with the US in the global war against terrorism. And we want our partner to be attendant to that task and not distracted by foreign countries telling it what to do. That’s really the overall premise of the policy — to respect Israel as a partner, and not to unduly influence its decisions.”
