JNS.org – An Israeli toddler who was severely wounded in a Palestinian terrorist attack that killed his father and seriously injured his mother has been “adopted” by a soccer team comprised of fellow survivors of terrorism and their loved ones.
Natan Bennett, 3, who sustained serious injuries to his leg when a Palestinian attacked the Bennett family with a knife in the Old City on a Saturday night in 2015, joined the sports team during a ceremony Thursday in Jerusalem, with his mother, Adele, in attendance.
The soccer program is a project of of OneFamily, a group devoted to helping victims of terror rebuild their lives emotionally, legally and financially, in a ceremony Thursday in Jerusalem.
OneFamily soccer coach, Ami Ben-David, said the team’s goal is not only to win games, but to be a support system.
“Every single player of the team is a family member. Today, we were joined be a new player, Natan Bennett. From now on, he has a huge supporting family,” Ben-David said.
OneFamily CEO Chantal Belzberg said in a statement that at every game, “there is something much deeper going on.”
The vicious attack on the Bennett family grabbed the attention of the Jewish world last year, as the story came out of how Natan’s father, Rabbi Aharon Bennett was killed before his wife and child, of how a brave bystander, Nehemia Lavi, rushed to the Bennetts’ aid and was also murdered. Adele — badly wounded — managed to run and alert nearby Border Police who neutralized the terrorist, who had by that time managed to get his hands on a gun and had started firing.
