JNS.org – At least seven Israelis were wounded in a shooting and stabbing terror attack Thursday near an open-air market in the central city of Petah Tikva, a suburb of Tel Aviv.
According to Israel Police, an 18-year-old Palestinian from Nablus opened fire on a bus near the market, before entering a sewing shop where he continued his attack until he was subdued by civilians with a sewing machine.
The attacker was arrested by police with a weapon in hand, according to Central District Police spokesman Ami Ben David.
The Magen David Adom emergency response group said it treated the wounded individuals and evacuated them to local hospitals.
“I was in the store when suddenly there’s a terrorist with a weapon,” said witness Leon Itkin, the Jerusalem Post reported. “He tried to shoot, but he was stopped.”
Itkin added that the attacker grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed one of the men in the shop.
Footage of the aftermath of the attack showed a chaotic scene in which police attempted to take the terrorist into custody, while angry civilians cursed and tried to beat the assailant.
