The first ladies of the United States and Israel visited the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) on Wednesday in Washington, DC, as their husbands met at the White House for a joint press conference and meeting.
Melania Trump, wife of US President Donald Trump, and Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, were accompanied on the tour by NMAAHC director Lonnie Bunch and Smithsonian Secretary David Skorton.
At the visit’s conclusion, Melania Trump told CNN: “As we remember, with deep humility and reverence, the historic plight of slavery which the Jewish and African-American people have known all too well, we rededicate ourselves to those powerful words that both our nations hold dear: ‘NEVER AGAIN!'” She later wrote on Twitter that it had been “an honor” to visit the museum, and thanked Mrs. Netanyahu for her “friendship and dedication.”
This was Melania’s first official outing since her husband’s inauguration on January 20, but not the first time she has met Sara Netanyahu. Their most recent exchange was in November, when the two chatted by phone.
