JNS.org – Jordanian and Egyptian leadership reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinan conflict at a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday.
Jordan’s King Abdullah and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi “discussed future movements to break the gridlock within the Middle East peace process, especially with US President Donald Trump’s administration taking power,” according to a statement issued after the meeting. This included “mutual coordination to reach a two-state solution and establish a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as a capital, which is a national constant that cannot be given up.”
The meeting between the two Arab leaders came just days after a report revealed that Adbullah and el-Sisi met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last year, in a failed bid by the Obama administration to put together a regional summit on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During his meeting with Netanyahu last week, Trump suggested that he would be open to paradigms other than the two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
