British rock band Coldplay frontman Chris Martin arrived in Israel last week for the second time in three months, to ink a “peace tour” deal to perform in the Jewish state and the Palestinian Authority, the Hebrew news site Ynet reported.
The singer-songwriter denied he had signed a contract — as purportedly happened in November, when he scouted the country to pen such an arrangement. This, said Ynet, could be due to a refusal on the part of the PA to agree to “double” shows.
For example, the report said, a request by the late Leonard Cohen to perform in Ramallah was denied following a performance in Israel. “As such,” according to Ynet, “it is currently unclear how the Palestinians will react or if Coldplay’s idea is even feasible in terms of security. The possibility of Coldplay performing for Palestinians in Israel is also being examined.”
However, Israeli PR company Nidar Oz Communications claimed that the UK group is in the process of finalizing the details of the concerts.
