JNS.org – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Thursday that he plans to keep his commitment to build the first new Judea and Samaria (West Bank) settlement in 25 years.
Netanyahu told reporters before a meeting with Slovenian President Borut Pahor that “there were will be more details about this in a few hours.”
The prime minister made a public promise in Dec. 2016 to create a new community for 40 families evacuated — after lengthy, controversial negotiations with the Israeli government over Palestinian land ownership claims — in Feb. 2017 from the outpost of Amona.
Israel reportedly rejected a recent request by the Trump administration to freeze construction in isolated settlement blocs, but the Jewish state subsequently denied that the US made any such demand.
