A military conflict between the US and North Korea would have “direct implications” for the Jewish state, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told the Hebrew news site Walla on Tuesday.
Against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Washington and Pyongyang and with the threat of further North Korean nuclear tests looming, Lieberman said, “[North Korean leader] Kim Jong-un is an ally of [Syrian President Bashar] Assad. The path goes from North Korea through Iran to Syria and Hezbollah. Their goal is to undermine the stability of the world. This is an extreme and crazy group.”
“Any nuclear crisis anywhere would affect the entire world,” Lieberman went on to say. “I don’t want to go into scenarios, but there is no such thing as a limited nuclear crisis.”
The Syrian nuclear reactor that the Israeli Air Force reportedly bombed in 2007, Walla noted, was built with the help of North Korean scientists.
Last month, David Albright — head of the Institute for Science and International Security think tank — told The Algemeiner that paying attention to any potential nuclear cooperation between North Korea and Iran should be a priority for the Trump administration.
