Israeli actress Gal Gadot nearly gave up on her acting career to stay in Israel with her family after continuously facing rejection from casting directors, she admitted in the December issue of British Glamour.

Gadot said that before she landed the lead role in “Wonder Woman,” she had considered never returning to Los Angeles to search for acting gigs. She told the magazine, “[I thought I’d] stay in Israel, work as an actress here and there, go back to university and do something else. Because there had been so many ‘no’s.”

She added, “You go to the audition and you have a callback, then another callback and then a camera set-up, and people are telling you your life will change if you get this part. And then you don’t get it. I reached a place where I didn’t want to do that anymore.”

The 32-year-old mother-of-two also noted that her husband — real estate developer Yaron Versano — has a lot of business in Israel, so the idea of moving her family to Los Angeles for her to find a job put “a lot of pressure” on her.

Her doubt in her ability to perform as an actress was already taking over when she got the call about “Wonder Woman.” She told Glamour, “I was like, ‘Why am I doing this?’ Hearing no, over and over, I was thinking, ‘What am I good for?’ And that’s when I got Wonder Woman.”

Gadot said if she had not been an actress she likely would have gone on to practice law, but she told Glamour she was “happy it didn’t work out.”

“You convince yourself to do these things,” she said. “‘I’ll be a lawyer so I can make peace and people will be able to reach agreements.’ Whereas, in real life, lawyers deal with conflict non-stop. Conflicts are not good for me. I’m all about harmony and Zen. I would be the sh–tiest lawyer.”

The December issue of British Glamour will be out on Monday, Oct. 30.
