American gentiles are increasingly buying Passover food, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. This may be because some non-Jews “participate in Passover seders …with Jewish friends”, “reenact Christ’s last supper”, “have dietary restrictions that mirror Passover’s” or “just love Passover treats”, according to the paper.
Menachem Lubinsky, Editor of KosherToday.com and producer of Kosherfest, a kosher foods trade show, told the paper that the Passover industry has now grown to between $2.5 billion and $3 billion annually.
Additionally, AP reports that Jewish marriage contracts, known as ketubot, and other rituals are also becoming more popular at non-Jewish weddings. Ketubot are described as “more than just fancy calligraphy” and are “often poster-size and ornate, suitable for framing later with artwork either as backdrop or accompaniment.”
According to the report, other Jewish marriage rituals embraced by non-Jewish couples include stomping on a glass, with some using a lightbulb as a common substitute. Some couples also “recite vows under a canopy, called a chuppah.”
