JNS.org – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was questioned for a fifth time on Thursday amid ongoing corruption probes.
Netanyahu was interviewed for four hours at his official residence in Jerusalem by police interrogators from the Lahav 433 unit.
Police are currently investigating two cases directly involving Netanyahu: Case 1000, which centers on gifts Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, allegedly received from Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan and others; and Case 2000, focusing on secret conversations between Netanyahu and Yedioth Ahronoth publisher Arnon Mozes, in which the prime minister allegedly asked the publisher to soften his newspaper’s aggressive anti-Netanyahu stance, promising in exchange to use his influence to curtail the activities of Yedioth’s chief competitor, Israel Hayom.
Thursday’s questioning was Netanyahu’s first such session since his former chief of staff, Ari Harow, signed a deal to become a state witness for the prosecution.
Earlier this week, two of Netanyahu’s closest associates, special envoy Isaac Molho and his personal attorney and cousin David Shimron, were interrogated in another corruption case — one in which Netanyahu has not been directly implicated.
