Megyn Kelly Hosts ‘Hasidic Superwoman of Night Court’ to Talk About Judaism, Faith in God

Megyn Kelly hosted on her talk show last week a Hasidic female judge as part of her week-long “She’s Got Faith” series.
Ruchie Freier — thought to be the first Hasidic woman to hold public office in US history — talked to the host of “Megyn Kelly Today” about her unbreakable faith in God and Judaism giving her the “strength and the backbone” she needs to succeed in life.
The 52-year-old mother-of-six — described as the “Hasidic Superwoman of Night Court” by The New York Times — said she received some backlash from others in the Hasidic community when she ran for office but, she explained, “I looked at them straight in the eye and said ‘If God wants me to win I’m gonna win.'” She was later elected as a New York civil court judge.
She added about God’s role in her life, “I have the best seat in the house because wherever I set in this courthouse above me are the words emblazoned ‘In God We Trust’ and that always puts me into perspective. Every decision I make, there is a God above me.”
A video clip showed Judge Freier balancing work and her personal life. Kelly’s film crew followed the judge in the courtroom and also at home as she cooked for her family and lit candles for Shabbat. Judge Freier talking about being a legal secretary for many years before deciding to pursue higher education, at the age of 30, to become a judge.
She also discussed her latest project: an EMT service in her community, which she started because of her “deal with God.” Judge Freier said she had promised God that if she got help finishing law school without having to “compromise her religious values,” then she would help others in need.
Judge Freier said she viewed herself as a “trailblazer, laying the path and the framework for other people to follow and do something similar.” She added, “I believe that women are capable, that women have abilities, can achieve a lot…My role is being a mother, being there for my children but that doesn’t mean I can’t be a professional.”
