Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared his full solidarity on Monday with anti-regime protesters in Iran, slamming Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for his “laughable” claim that the demonstrations, now in their fifth day, were being orchestrated by Israel.
“Unlike Rouhani, I will not insult the Iranian people,” Netanyahu remarked in a special video addressing the Iranian protests. “They deserve better.”
The Israeli leader continued: “Brave Iranians are pouring into the streets. They seek freedom. They seek justice.”
Lauding the people of Iran as “smart,” “sophisticated” and “proud,” Netanyahu called out European Union governments “for their silence as heroic young Iranians are beaten in the streets.”
“That’s just not right,” he said.
“When this regime finally falls, and one day it will, Iranians and Israelis will be great friends once again,” Netanyahu predicted.
