A 30-year-old security guard died of wounds suffered in a stabbing attack on Sunday evening in the Old City of Jerusalem, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The attack reportedly took place on Hagai Street near the Jewish Quarter and the Western Wall. A Palestinian terrorist attacked the security guard, stabbing him in the upper body causing serious wounds. The terrorist was then shot to death by an officer at the scene.
The wounded guard was quickly evacuated to Shaare Zedek Hospital by Magen David Adom paramedics, where he later died.
Hebrew news site Mako earlier quoted one of the paramedics saying, “As soon as I received the call about the attack … I ran to the place. On the street was lying a young man in his thirties, conscious, and he was suffering from several stab wounds in his upper body and limbs. We gave him first aid … and took him out of the Old City to a mobile MADA emergency treatment station, which sent him in an extremely serious condition to the hospital.”
Israel’s Shin Bet security agency named the attacker as Abdel Rahman Bani Fadel, 28, a Palestinian father of two from the village of Akraba near the town of Nablus in the West Bank.
Tensions have been rising over the past several weeks, with multiple explosions on the Gaza border, demonstrations in the West Bank, and a car-ramming attack on Friday that killed two soldiers.
