‘Jewish Spider-Man’ Arraigned After Climbing NYC Building, Breaking Into Business

A man who told police he was the “Jewish Spider-Man” was indicted on Thursday after he scaled the side of a building in New York City’s Diamond District and broke into a business through a second-floor window, the New York Daily News reported.
Long Island resident Matthew Cohen, 30, was arraigned on burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespass charges in Manhattan Criminal Court. Employees at the W. 47th St. office that Cohen broke into reported the break-in at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to authorities. Court papers said that Cohen told a police officer he had been “scaling the building like a Jewish Spider-Man.”
Cohen allegedly left blood stains at the office he busted into and when police officers arrived at the scene, Cohen was on the first floor “bleeding heavily from his hands,” according to his criminal complaint.
His attorney, Lorin Nathan, told the judge on Thursday that his client had mental health issues and there was “no criminal intent involved here.” Nathan added, “Mr. Cohen is in need of assistance.”
Cohen was released on his own recognizance by Judge Marisol Martinez Alonso and left the court proceedings with his father, according to the New York Daily News. The publication noted that records show Cohen was arrested in June for criminal mischief in relation to a domestic incident that took place in Nassau County.
