Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed Princess Diana’s 1981 Royal Wedding dress, has won a court battle dating back to 2010 over the rights and financial stake in her current company.
“I am relieved that this awful situation has finally been resolved and that justice had been done. I already lost my name once and I wasn’t going to let go of it the second time without a fight,” she said.
The case was brought by a man named Mike Cooper, who claimed he made an investment in Emanuel’s fashion company, Art of Being, making him the majority stakeholder and giving him the rights to Emanuel’s archival work.
Emanuel, who is Jewish, admitted to being approached by Cooper for an investment in her company, but maintains that she financed the company on her own. Emanuel had lost a previous court battle with other investors, in which she was no longer allowed to use her own name on fashion collections she designs.
