When he heard that his investment in the technology company Instagram was about to pay a hefty return, 26 year old Joshua Kushner was on a Passover trip with his family in Mexico, according to a new report from Forbes Magazine.
The son of a New York real estate titan, Kushner had just made an investment in Instagram through his venture capital company, Thrive Capital, days before Facebook purchased the photo sharing company for $1 billion. The investment valued Instagram at $500 million, essentially doubling the money Kushner and his team at Thrive had put in.
According to the Forbes article, Kushner and his father, Charles, would go and look at potential real estate buys every Thanksgiving, while everyone else was at home.
“The idea was when everyone is relaxing you should be working,” Kushner said. “The ball doesn’t come to you.”
The 26 year old venture capitalist recently went to a screening of a Shoah Foundation video interview of his grandmother, who survived the Holocaust.
