Two Israelis Among 157 Dead in Ethiopian Airlines Crash

Two Israelis were among those killed in the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jet near the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed the deaths of the two passengers, who have not yet been publicly named, Israel’s Channel 2 reported. None of the 149 passengers and 8 crew members aboard the flight survived the crash. The cause of the incident has not yet been confirmed.
According to the Channel 2 report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rushed to monitor the situation from the foreign ministry, and has spoken with the Israeli ambassador and consul in Ethiopia.
On Twitter, Netanyahu expressed his “sorrow over the two Israelis who died in the plane crash in Africa. Our hearts are with the families. I am conducting an assessment of the situation at the Foreign Ministry in order to assist in any way possible.”
Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely also expressed her sympathies, saying, “I join in the sorrow of the families whose loved ones died in the plane crash in Ethiopia. The State of Israel will send a team to assist in identifying the bodies.”
In addition to the two Israelis, nationals from Kenya, Canada, China, the US, and dozens of other countries were killed.
